Activating the Funding and Management of University Scientific Research Projects at Al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University : A Case Study
Abstract
The study aimed to identify the reality and the problems of the experience of the program of funding research projects at Al-Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in order toreviewit, and shed light on its findings and on the estimatedefforts of the university administrationto make it successful.This was done through an attempt to monitor the situation and identify existing problems, thus contributing to the development of research fundingprojectsprogram, and contributingto improve the quality of research, and achieve benefit from them in various fields of development, both atthe university and insociety. The studyhas highlighted thecontemporary trendsin thefunding and management ofscientific researchprojects, and the reality offunding and management ofuniversityscientificresearch projectsofImam Muhammad binSaud Islamic Universityatthe quantitativeand qualitative level, andhighlighted theadministrative problemsfaced by thebeneficiaries of theprogramfundingresearch projectsat the university.
The most importantfindings of the study arethat financial problemscomeon top ofthe problemsas a whole, followed byprocedural problems andthenarbitration and communication problems. The study also providesa proposal of a visionto activate thefunding and management of scientificresearch projects at the university in the framework ofthe most prominentcontemporary trendsfor thefunding and management of scientific research projectsThe suggested proposal is based on a number of proceduresincluding,most importantly:the development ofthe organizational structureof the management ofresearch funding program projects; a restructuring of the standing committee to financeresearch projects;developing research centers and units in colleges atthe university and activatingtheir role inparticipatingin the administration ofscientificresearch projects;developing some managerial processes, such asarbitration, communication, motivation, quality and competitiveness; further, developing procedures and formsforprogramfundingresearch projects anddeveloping techniques usedinprogramfundingresearch projects.
