Development of leadership Competencies among the Heads of Departments in the Faculty of Education in Mazahmiah from the Perspective of Faculty Members

Abstract

The study aimed to reveal the degree of availability of leadership competencies according to the OECD model: results achieving competencies, social competencies and strategic competencies; among the heads of departments at the Faculty of Education in Mazahmiah from the point of view of its faculty members. It also aimed to identify the proposed mechanisms for the development of leadership competencies among the heads of departments at the Faculty of Education in Mazahmiah from the point of view of its faculty members. This study employed the descriptive approach and the questionnaire as the data collection tool

 The study consists of all faculty members in the College of Education in Mazahmiah, where the study adopted a complete census method due to the small size of the population and was satisfied with the analysis of (85) questionnaires because (9) of them were studying abroad during the study.

The study found several results, most notably: the degree of availability of leadership competencies among the heads of departments at the Faculty of Education in Mazahamiah was high, with an arithmetic mean of (3.73 out of 5.00), and the order of dimensions of leadership competencies came in descending order according to the arithmetic mean for each dimension as follows: social competencies and relationship construction dimension with an arithmetic mean of 3.90 out of 5.00, followed by the competencies associated with achieving results with an arithmetic mean of 3.80 out of 5.00, and finally, strategic competencies with an arithmetic mean of 3.48 out of 5.00The results also showed that the study population was moderately agreed, with overall arithmetic mean of 3.37 out of 5.00 on the proposed mechanisms for the development of leadership competencies among the heads of departments at the Faculty of Education in Mazahmiah. Based on the results, the study presented a set of recommendations that is hoped will lead to the development and reinforcement of leadership competencies among university staff, the most important of which are: activating channels of communication between all parties, empowering faculty members, and encouraging them to participate in decision-making processes.
