The Problems That Female Students Encounter at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the different problems that faced female students in the diploma of education at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. The study used a descriptive survey method as it is more appropriate to realize the objectives of the study. The sample population of the study included the female students of the diploma of education of the second semester 1433-1434 which totaled 589 female students in the first and second level. The sample was chosen purposefully from among all the female students of the general diploma of education in the second level who were 326.. The final sample totaled 224 female students. The results of the study showed that the responses of the sample of the study to the academic problems were very much high, which were in average (5-4, 21). They were illustrated in:   female students  being given a lot of tasks to do, the mix among the items of the curricular course of the program, the difficulty of having office hours  for the student and the teaching staff, the lack of balance between the theoretical part and the practical part in the study courses. There were 11 statements in their responses which scored very high, which were in average (4, 20-3, 41) and showed that the teaching staff  emphasized lecturing; the lack of balance between the size of the course and the hours allotted for the course; the difficulty of revising the exam notes; the inefficiency of making available the activities and assignments in such an easy way for the students over the term of the study; the lack of dividing the female students into groups; the mixed abilities of the students were not taken into consideration by the teaching staff; the academic incompetence of the teaching staff; the lack of associating the curricula courses with  reality; the lack of  focus of the curricular courses on the educational aspects; the absence of a clear-cut study plan for the courses before teaching them that could include the content, objectives, and references; the teaching staff coming late to class. In terms of the administrative and organizational problems, the responses of the sample population were very high with an average if (5-4, 21) and showed that the classrooms were not appropriately equipped; there was no mosque on campus; it was not easy to contact the people responsible for the diploma online. There were 5 responses high for the sample population of the study with an average of 4, 20 – 3, 41) and show that the  size of the classrooms was not appropriate for the number of the students; the inefficiency of the people responsible for the university  library; the lack of facilities and utilities for the students such as photocopying; the lack of cooperation among  university employees with the diploma students; the difficulty of accepting  mitigating circumstances and medical reports. The responses of the sample population of the research study to the social and economic problems were very  high with an average of 5-4, 21) which showed: that there was the fear of not completing the requirements of the diploma; the cost of  books and  references was very high; there was the difficulty of adapting to the evening shift hours for one year; there were family obligations that were not in harmony with the time of the classes and the difficulty of  commuting in the evening.
