Teaching passion among Islamic studies teachers and its role in the relationship between professional development and learner-centered instruction

Abstract

Abstract:  

The aim of the current study is to identify the correlation between professional development , teaching passion and learning-centered instruction,  to test whether teaching passion mediates the relationship between professional development (PD) and student-centered instruction (SCI), and  reveal the moderating effect of gender (male-female) on the relationship between PD and SCI. The study sample consisted of (308) Islamic studies teachers in general education schools. Three instrumented were used to collect data; Professional development of teachers, passion for teaching, and learning-centered instruction. The study results revealed   a significant relationship between professional development and student-centered instruction, a significant relationship between professional development and teaching passion, a significant relationship between teaching passion and student-centered instruction. The results showed teaching passion is a partial mediator in the relationship between Professional development and learner-centered instruction. It also showed that gender has no moderator effect in the relationship between professional development and learning-centered instruction.  The study presented a number of the most important recommendations: Attention to the professional development of teachers, for the obvious effect on the passion for teaching and learner-centered instruction.
