Effectiveness of a Teaching Program Based on Kolb's Model in the Development of Systemic Thinking Skills and the Attitude towards Learning the Life Skills and Family Education Course for Middle First Grade Students

The research aimed to design a teaching program based on the Kolb's model and measure its effectiveness in the development of systemic thinking skills and the attitude towards learning the Life Skills and Family Education course among middle first graders. The experimental approach with a semi-experimental design was used to achieve that purpose. A scale of the systemic thinking skills as well as a scale of the attitude towards learning were designed. The research sample consisted of (40) students divided into two groups: experimental and the control group. They were selected by the random cluster method from middle first grade students. The result revealed the effectiveness of the teaching program based on Kolb's Model in the development of systemic thinking skills and the attitude towards learning the Life Skills and Family Education course for middle first graders. The value of Cohen’s D reached (.55) in the scale of the systemic thinking skills, and (.72) in the scale of the attitude towards learning. As a results of the study, it was proposed to train the teachers of Family Education course to use the Kolb's Model in the educational process for its beneficial effect on developing thinking skills in general and systemic thinking skills in particular. Moreover, to develop the teaching strategies used to teach the Life Skills and Family Education course to help improve the attitude towards learning this course.
