The extent to which middle school art education textbooks include skills for the ‎twenty-first century in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the extent to which middle school art education textbooks in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia include 21st - century skills. An analysis tool was developed, which is a content analysis form. It includes 21st-century skills and determines the existence of skills in the content through the indications of the objectives, paragraphs of content, activities, and evaluation questions through the indicators presented in the analysis form that can be used to indicate the existence of these skills; and a percentage of them has been calculated from the total list of indicators included in the analysis form.

The results indicated that learning and innovation skills were the most fortunate in inclusion in art education textbooks in the middle stage ; were included with a frequency of (806) and a rate of inclusion (84.40%) that is a high degree of inclusion.

  As for technology, information, and media skills, their inclusion was ranked second in the middle stage and was included with a frequency of (117) and a rate of inclusion (12.25%), which is a low degree of inclusion. Moreover, life and professional skills came in third place, as they were included with a frequency of (32) and a rate of inclusion (3.35%), which is a low degree of inclusion. The mean inclusion of twenty-first century skills in art education textbooks in the middle stage (33.33%), which indicates a low degree of inclusion.
