Abstract

The present research proposes the determination of the academic standards of educational programs at Saudi universities (Arabic language as a model). It explores their importance and the degree of their application, from the point of view of academic development and quality officials and Arabic language experts at Saudi universities. To achieve the study’s objectives, the researcher adopted the descriptive approach. A survey was designed and applied to a sample of (58) academic development and quality official leaders of different Saudi universities. The questionnaire was applied as well to a random sample of (105) Arabic language experts at Saudi universities. The results showed that there are (52) academic standards of educational programs at Saudi universities (Arabic as a model), distributed within four stages (standards for planning phase, for design phase, for evaluation phase, and standards of administrative and formal procedures for approving the educational program). The results also confirmed that all academic standards of educational programs at Saudi universities are very important, from the perspective of the study sample, and can be fully applied.

The results also found that there are no statistically significant differences between the academic development and quality officials’ opinions and those of specialized Arabic language experts at Saudi universities, regarding the importance of academic standards of educational programs at Saudi universities. Similarly, there are no statistically significant differences between the views of both inquired samples, concerning the application of academic standards for educational programs at Saudi universities. Finally, in the light of the study’s results, several recommendations and propositions have been suggested.
