Abstract

The study aimed to determine the competency of teaching creative thinking skills necessary for Arabic language teachers, as well as identify the level of their ability to teach creative thinking skills. The competencies emphasized in this study were planning for creative thinking, discovering creative ability, generating creative ideas, solving by creative thinking, and rewarding creative production. The statistically significant differences between the mean scores of teaching creative thinking skills that are attributed to gender and educational level were identified. The study sample consisted of (133) Arabic language teachers, (73) males and (60) females. The study utilized the descriptive analytical approach using observation form to explore the competencies of Arabic language teachers in teaching creative thinking skills. The results indicated a high level of teachers' competencies in employing creative thinking skills. These competencies were ranked as the following; generating creative thinking, finding a solution, evaluating, discovering creative ability, and planning for creative thinking. There were, however, no significant differences between teachers of the Arabic language that attributed to gender academic levels or the level of education.
