Abstract

This study aims to identify the extent to which Islam moderate principles are found in secondary school Jurisprudence textbooks and address aspects of the textbooks which do not conform to these principles. To achieve the objectives of the study, a questionnaire was used as instrument. It consists of two parts; each part contains a number of sub-indicators amounting to (71) for both. The first part deals with moderate principles of Islam whereas the second discusses phenomena that do not conform to these principles. The questionnaires wereshown to a group of specialists.

In light of the specialists' opinions and notes, andafter conducting a textbooks analysis (still in progress), the study findings show that there is a lack of moderation in secondary school Jurisprudence textbooks. They reveal that secondary school Jurisprudence textbooks do not address some phenomena that do not conform to moderationsuch as relating to exaggeration in religion and extremism. They insufficiently and inadequately deal with phenomena such as excessiveness, negligence, extremism and terrorism, while some of the books do not deal at all with suchphenomena.
