Abstract

The main goal of this study was to suggest a framework for teaching and learning human rights in the undergraduate level in Saudi Arabia with the integration of information technology (IT). To achieve this goal, the study applied three research stages, with concentration on Imam Muhammad Ibn Saudi Islamic University (IMSIU) as a case study. In the first stage, a list of human rights was determined with help of 30 experts. The list consists of 35 rights that are applicable to be taught in all Saudi Higher Education institutions.  In the second stage, all university course requirements in IMSIU were analyzed via analysis tools designed for this study. The study found that the contents of these courses do not reject the human rights. However, they do not have enough coverage that lead to sold knowledge of the human rights. In the third stage, the framework of teaching and learning human rights was suggested. The framework consists of four elements.  The first deals with the knowledge of human rights. The second deals with weather to teach the rights in an independent or non-independent course. The third deals with the proper time of teaching human rights, i.e., in the first year or second or the last year. The fourth element deals with the ways of teaching and learning human rights and the ways of integration IT in learning it. The study recommends teaching the human rights in the undergraduate level in the second year in an independent course applying student center learning and integrating IT in learning it. The study also suggests trainning faculty on the proper teaching methods and on how to integrate IT in the teaching and learning process of the human rights.
