Abstract:
This study aimed to reveal the effectiveness of a suggested strategy based on persuasion theories in developing discourse analysis skills among students of the Arabic Language Department at the University of Hail. The researcher used the experimental method with its quasi-experimental design, prepared a list of discourse analysis skills, an achievement test, and a guide for the course professor and the student to implement the suggested strategy. The study tools and materials were applied after verifying their validity and reliability on a sample of (46) students from the Arabic Language Department at the University of Hail, in two experimental and control groups. The results of the study showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (0.05) between the averages of the experimental and control group in the post-measurement of discourse analysis skills, in discourse structure, discourse context, and the overall score in favor of the experimental group. The results revealed a large effect size for the suggested strategy, indicating its effectiveness in developing students’ discourse analysis skills.
